“Graffiti y arte urbano”

Theory and practice, one quadmester
Fine Arts Faculty, Aranjuez
Complutense University of Madrid
2006-2015

Javier Abarca devised and taught this university class about graffiti and street art. The class was part of the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Complutense University of Madrid in Aranjuez between 2006 and 2015.

The four-month class consisted of more than 50 sessions, divided between theory and practice. During the practice sessions the students’ personal projects were discussed. Theory sessions included 20 two-hour lectures, plus screenings and artists’ visits. Since 2015 Abarca teaches these lectures in the form of courses of one or more days by commission of institutions and events.

This page showcases a selection of projects produced by the students as part of the class. Projects are based on the observation and re-evaluation of a particular public context. They can either be interventions or comprise documentation only.
